Memorial

To preserve the history of Mandu Ladino, the plan is to build a Memorial (monument) in his honor at a site still to be chosen: on the banks of the Parnaíba River in the city of Parnaíba (PI) or, more fittingly, near Campo Maior (PI) on highway BR-343, at the Caldeirão reservoir in Lagoa de São Francisco (PI), or in Alto Longá (PI), which has already expressed interest. Funds are being raised for this goal.

To keep his ideas alive, and in gratitude for his struggle, Brigada Mandu Ladino is organizing the construction of a monument to his glorious history.

Mandu Ladino Highway — BR-343

Brigada Mandu Ladino has campaigned for highway BR-343 to be named the Mandu Ladino Highway. To that end, Federal Deputy Osmar Jr (PCdoB-PI) filed a formal request.

Highway BR-343, which links the town of Bertolínia to the coast of Piauí, is set to be named the Mandu Ladino Highway. Proposed by Deputy Osmar Junior (PCdoB/PI), this tribute would make it the first federal highway in Brazil to honor an Indigenous person. As a cornerstone of Brazil’s anthropological formation, this tribute to Brazil’s Indigenous peoples is long overdue. It also recognizes a man who defended the land with all his strength and dreamed of protecting the environment at a time when no one cared about it.

The Paraíba–Piauí trail

The enigmatic trail Mandu followed from Paraíba to Piauí is being mapped, with strategic points along his route.

Walking this trail is a way to reawaken in each of us the will to fight for our own lives.

The trail will be published soon, and the points Mandu passed through will be shared with everyone who wishes to walk it.
